Fragrance Tips to Make Your Favourite Scent Last Longer

There is nothing better than opening up a new bottle of your favourite fragrance and delighting in its aroma. Whether it’s a gift from a loved one, or a treat for yourself, wearing the scents that you love and that define you, can make you feel more confident and content. But what if that gorgeous scent seems to disappear after only an hour or so, could you be wearing your perfume all wrong? In short, yes, which is why we’ve prepared these fragrance tips to help you get the most from your favourite scents.
How To Make Fragrance Last Longer
1.Make fragrance the star of the show – when getting ready for the day there are lots of scented products to choose from including deodorant, body lotion and body oil. Wearing these in addition to your favourite fragrance will assault the nostrils, creating a weird combination of aromas that will probably detract attention from your perfume. So make your fragrance the star of the show, by wearing it in combination with unscented deodorants, lotions and creams. Or, if you do want to go down the scented products route, choose matching scents – i.e. scented body wash, lotion and EDP from the same fragrance house – as this will help make the fragrance last longer.
2.Get the order right – experts suggest that the best time to apply fragrance is after showering, as the moisture in your skin helps to lock in the scent. It is also a good idea to moisturise your skin before you apply perfume, as it provides a great base helping the scent to stick, so think to yourself ‘shower, smooth, spritz’ and you can’t go far wrong!

3.Apply fragrance in the right places – if you’re spraying the air with your favourite fragrance and walking through it to get an even distribution of aroma, stop, because you are just wasting good scent! A direct spray onto your bare skin, paying particular attention to pulse points – such as insides of the elbows, nape of the neck and backs of the knees – is the best way to apply scent. When applying, use a gentle dabbing motion rather than rubbing in.
If you really want to have your head wrapped in your favourite fragrance then consider spraying directly onto your hair. Some perfumes even offer a hair mist. Click here to see.
One more idea? If you want longevity without spraying onto your skin then spray onto your clothes instead. Some of the best places are the knee of trousers, scarves and jumpers.
4.Choose the best fragrance type for you – if you truly want a fragrance that lasts then you need to understand a little about the science behind the smell. In brief, perfumes have a fragrance to alcohol ratio, with Eau De Parfums (EDP) having a higher concentration of perfume than Eau De Toilettes (EDT).
So where you can opt for an EDP rather than and EDT; yes you may have to spend more but the scent will be more intense and last longer. You will also need to apply less and re-spritz less often. So a win-win in the long term for you and your pocket. To help you at Fragrance House we offer Interest Free payment options such as Openpay and Clearpay.
5.Store your fragrance correctly – to prolong your favourite perfume remember that light, heat and humidity will all break it down, reducing the intensity of the scent. For this reason, bathrooms are not the ideal place to keep your fragrance. Opt instead for somewhere cooler and darker, perhaps in a cupboard or on top of a dresser that doesn’t sit in front of a window.
As we all start to get out and about again, in line with the roadmap out of UK lockdown, it’s time to get the best from your fragrance, so following these tips on how to make fragrance last longer couldn’t have come at a better time!

One final tip before we go, if you have a fragrance miniature in the same scent as you are wearing, take it out with you for touch ups throughout the day. Don’t have a miniature? No problem, apply your scent to a cotton wool pad and keep in a sealed plastic bag (the kind you put your toiletries in when heading to the airport) and you’ll have your favourite fragrance on hand all day!
