Choosing a New Fragrance

• Don’t try too many new fragrances all at once. Not only will you be confused about which ones you like best but you might not give the scents a chance to develop on your skin. When trying a new fragrance, give it at least 30 minutes to warm to your skin before making a final decision.  Also ensure that you do not spray fragrances you are testing on your skin too close together as their notes will mereg.
• Remember that fragrance comes in 4 different levels of concentration ranging from Pure Parfum at the highest concentration through to Eau de Parfum (EDP), Eau de Toilette (EDT) and finally Eau de Cologne (EDC). The higher the parfum concentration the longer the life of the fragrance on your skin. A Pure parfum will last most of the day when applied to the wrist or pulse points, whereas an Eau de Cologne will only last a couple of hours.
• Understand fragrance notes. All fragrance consists of three layers made up of base notes, heart notes and top notes. These combine to give a specific scent. It’s worth looking at the perfumes and aftershaves you currently own or have favoured in the past to see if there’s a theme. For example do you favour floral notes, fresh notes including fruity, green or aquamarine aromas or do you prefer oriental and woody notes? • Never choose a fragrance based on what someone else likes or how it smells on them. Your skin has its own unique hormones and pheromones.
